The Full Story
The Twin Lakes Community Schoolhouse Foundation, Inc. (TLCS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization comprised of residents of Rathdrum/Twin Lakes who are dedicated to preserving the historic Upper Twin Lake Schoolhouse.
Generous and caring citizens volunteered their time over the years to keep the building and its surroundings maintained and painted. However, the building has suffered structural damage and requires several repairs to meet the required codes. The TLCS Foundation was established to raise the necessary funds for the repair and restoration work. Since 2014, the foundation has organized several fundraisers, solicited donations and reached out to local businesses and residents to spread the word. The first phase of the project involved fixing a large crack in the foundation's northeast corner. Thanks to the foundation's donors and a generous grant from the Idaho Heritage Trust, this repair was completed in the summer of 2017. However, more work needed to be done. The second phase focused on updating plumbing and electrical systems, remodeling the kitchen and bathrooms, and other improvements. The foundation also aims to improve the Schoolhouse's aesthetic appearance by cleaning, painting and plastering. Volunteers with skills and expertise in these areas are welcome to contact the foundation to offer their services. Additionally, the foundation seeks the community's help by sharing their Twin Lakes history stories and pictures. The Schoolhouse has a history display showcasing its past, but more contributions are always welcome. The foundation's fundraising efforts continue, and they appreciate any support from the community.
The TLCS Foundation's ultimate goal is to restore the Schoolhouse to its former glory so that it can once again serve as a center of community events and functions. Volunteers have been instrumental in maintaining the building over the years, and the foundation is grateful for their ongoing support.
